Dr. Patrice Robinson, Superintendent of Fairfield County Schools, may be in violation of her contract with the district, according to a review of the document by The Herald Independent.

According to Dr. Robinson’s contract, a copy of which was obtained by The Herald Independent through the Freedom of Information Act, she was to have established “a permanent residence within the geographic boundaries of the District” no later than July 1 of this year

While various School Board members report that Dr. Robinson has obtained a residence in the county, it is another clause in the contract that is giving them concern.

According to paragraph six of the contract, in addition to becoming a resident of Fairfield County, Dr. Robinson must also become a “registered voter of the District.”

Phone calls to the Fairfield County Voter Registration and Elections office indicate that this has not been done.

“I’m disappointed, to say the least,” said Annie McDaniel, Chairwoman of the School Board. “We’re going to have a conversation Monday night and try to handle this in such a way where she can put some options on the table and board members can put some options on the table and we’ll see if we can come to some happy medium.”

Board member Polly Parker (Dist. 7) said she was also aware of the potential contract breach, but took a more drastic tone.

“The lady needs to be relieved of her duties,” Parker said, “and we need to secure a person of quality to come in here and take care of Fairfield County.”

Robinson’s contract, signed January 19, is for four and a half years, with an annual salary of $140,000.

In addition, the contract requires the district to pay the superintendent’s annual dues to the following professional organizations: the American Association of School Administrators, the S.C. Association of School Administrators, the S.C. Alliance of Black School Educators and the National Alliance of Black School Educators.

The district is also responsible for providing and maintaining an automobile for the superintendent’s travel on district business, including to and from her home.

The board was to have discussed this potential contract breach at last night’s special called meeting, which took place after press time.

The expectations for the superintendent in six months on the job is monumental! She took a position and had no support staff because everyone who was working at the time was a consultant. For a year or more the school district has been without any leadership because the acting superintendent was out sick. the finance director was only parttime. The board is micromanaging everyone. When will someone address the needs of the children and try to hire competent teachers and administrators who will address the needs of the schools and the community and not themselves. I have never heard of a school district this size with so much turmoil and lawsuits pending. What is wrong with the citizens that they have allowed this to go on for years.

In my opinion, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? A board member lives outside the county and during her investigation process continued to operate as board chair. The question is, is she getting the job done? She walked into a mess and from SACS, to investigations, lawsuits, hirings. I think the board can find some negotiable BEFORE talk of bringing someone else in!
