National Night Out is intended to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out is a unique community event, celebrated in the U.S. and Canada, that focuses on prevention of crime and drug activity, and is held the first Tuesday of August every year.
This annual event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and is a non-profit, crime prevention organization which works in cooperation with thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide. NATW’s network has grown to include more than 6,000 crime, drug and violence prevention organizations.
This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in the fight to build a safer Fairfield County.
