FAIRFIELD —Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science art students represented Fairfield County School District well at the S.C. State Fair along with their art teacher Kimberlea Daly.

“Congratulations Mrs. Daly and students,” said Julieann Neal, coordinator of visual and performing arts. “You’ve done such a great job of representing the Magnet School and the district. Keep up the great work.”

Of the 2,900 art pieces entered in the contest for school-aged children, just 300 pieces were chosen.

Second place finishers were:

• Second place 3-D for sixth grade-Aeriel Truesdale

• Second place 3-D for third grade-Kelsey White

• Second place 2-D for third grade-Ra’Sun Stevenson

• Honorable mention 2-D-A Passionate McDaniel, Hannah Joyner, Tierra Thomas, and Margo Benbow.

• Other FMSMS art students that were juried into the hanging show were:

Ce’Andra Bouknight, Mercedez Carpenter, Jada Young, Jameshia Peterson, Amari Hill, Kashinda Sims, Paul Harts, Tyreese Murphy, Nhandi Long-Shipman, Charlie Cason, Katelyn Harsey, Gillian Poole, Teriaunna Ashford, Dameion Herbert, Joey Bannister, Tayonna Holmes, Jaterria Russell, Mya Hill, Antonio Benjamin, Kasey Walden, and Ruben Tucker.

Please visit the student art section at the state fair to see these their art pieces and others from all over the state.

This is a very big honor and Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science had a great showing. Visit the Cantey Building at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia to see the 2012 Student Art Exhibit and support local talent.

These winners were invited to attend the student art awards reception at 2 p.m. on Oct. 7 in the Cantey Building at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia to preview the 2012 Student Art Exhibit.
