WINNSBORO – Rotarian Mary Clare Matthews recently presented Whitney Evans from the S.C. Policy Council for her speaker at Rotary.

Evans, manager of member relations for the S.C. Policy Council in Columbia, explained what the Policy Council’s mission is and what it does.

The S.C. Policy Council was founded in 1986 by the late Thomas A. Roe of Greenville. Since then, the council’s mission has been to promote freedom, to protect freedom, and to prove that freedom works. The council is dedicated to restoring citizens’ power and prosperity through limited government, free enterprise and individual liberty and responsibility.

They do not believe politicians and government “experts” have all the answers nor do they believe it is the government’s role to run the economy. They believe politicians are employees, not celebrities, and accordingly the council’s goal is to encourage these folk to do their most important job and only job – protect our liberty.

Many Rotarians did not know such an organization existed and were grateful to Evans for sharing the Policy Council’s program and goals.
