WINNSBORO — Jeff Archie, senior vice president of Nuclear Operations at SCANA, presented a PowerPoint tour to the Winnsboro Rotary Club recently on the progress of the building of the No. 2. He was the guest of Rotarian Bart Sistare.

Archie said Santee Cooper owns 45 percent of Reactor 2 and Reactor 3, but own a smaller percentage of the first reactor already on line. It was interesting to see how the metal rods were built to place in the “pit” and then concrete will be poured over the metal framework. He showed pictures of the largest crane in the world which SCANA is leasing during the construction project.

He reported that SCANA makes its own concrete in their “batch” plants. He also discussed the construction and purpose of the “switchyard” saying this was where the nuclear power is prepared to be exported. Archie thanked the county for all the support they have given SCANA with the construction of the two new reactors.

Archie said he was proud to have been raised in the Jenkinsville community and to now see the success SCANA was having with these projects. Rotary President Jim Mullen commented how proud Fairfield County was of him also.

Archie recognized Ron Jones, vice president for New Nuclear Operations. Jones came to SCANA from Duke Power Company.
