RIDGEWAY — Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Ridgeway held an installation ceremony on Jan. 13 for their pastor, James M. Wilson Sr., and his wife, LeVane Wilson. The speaker was the Rev. Jerome Boyd of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Chester. The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Murdock was Master of Ceremony.
Wilson was born in Sumter and home church was Mechanicville United Methodist. Wilson is a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter and a 1978 graduate of the University of South Carolina, with a bachelor of science degree in Humanity and Social Science (Religious Studies).
Wilson is a U.S. Army veteran who he served in Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division-Combat Medic. He is retired from Bellsouth Telecommunication as an area manager of both South Carolina and Georgia.
Wilson and his wife have four children – James, Keonda, Wilbur and Jarvis – and eight grandchildren.
Wilson began his ministry in 1974 and was ordained at the Mt. Zero Baptist Church in Manning. In 1975, he was co-founder and president of the Student Christian Fellowship Ministry at the University of South Carolina. He has served in various capacities as the president of the Sunday School Christian Education of the Black River Lower Division Association.
During his tenure with the Gethsemane Association, he served as vice president on the Congress on Christian Education. From 1998 to 2012, he served in various positions in the Sandy River Baptist Association, Lower Division, as parliamentary, assistant treasurer, vice moderator and moderator.
