RIDGEWAY — Fairfield Healthcare Laurel Baye LLC, a medium-sized nursing home facility on Bellfield Road, celebrated National Activity Professionals Week from Jan. 20 through Jan. 25.
This is a week to celebrate the dedicated women and men who help enrich the daily lives of older adults in long term care facilities, retirement homes, day programs, and senior centers.
Activity Professionals provide a variety of programming related to community involvement, community service, physical well being and other types of activities to maintain normal life for the elderly. Many would say that Activity Professionals truly are the heartbeat of each and every facility.
This year’s National theme was “Activates a Sure Bet.” Frances Maddox, activity director for Fairfield Healthcare, and her staff developed a week of activities to include Jackpot BINGO, Casino Day, Western Day, Disco Day, and Hillbilly Day. Each day the residents were given a different activity to take part in along with food to match the theme.
Residents were also joined by special guests Dennis Wheeler, owner of Laurel Baye Healthcare LLC; State Sen. Creighton Coleman, House Rep. MaryGail Douglas, Sheriff Herman Young, Ridgeway Mayor Charlene Herring, Ridgeway Town Councilmen Donald Prioleau, Ron Mull and DJ Wilson with the Fairfield County Sheriff Department.
