WINNSBORO — The RWA Lady Eagles ran their record to 23-1 and 8-0 in region play on Monday night with a victory over Greenwood Christian School. The Eagles sank their claws into the Hawks and soared past them in a 63-27 road victory.

Junior guard Carson Justice led the team in scoring with 22 points, followed closely by sophomore C/PF Jessie Stidham who added 20 for the Lady Eagles. Freshman center Jaycie Johnson found her way into double figures as well with 11 points

The Lady Eagles overcame some adversity in this contest as Justice played much of the game in foul trouble and fouled out for the first time this season.

Justice had six assists to just two turnovers and added five blocks, four deflections, and three steals for the Lady Eagles. Her 5/11 shooting from downtown was a big difference maker in the game thanks to a good high-low game with the post players and screens to get her open shots.

The effectiveness low in the blocks kept the defense from keying on the only junior on a young RWA team. Backup point guard, eighth grader Alyssa Atkerson, seized a chance at more playing time due to Justice’s foul trouble and had five assists, though the younger guard also had five turnovers for a 1:1 ratio on the night.

With energetic junior guard Anna Cooke out with injury, eighth grader Bailey Taylor led the team in hustles with eight. The team shot 40 percent from the floor but just 39 percent from the free throw line.

The Lady Eagles next play at 6 p.m. Friday night at Union High School in the conference tournament. The Eagles face off against Oakbrook Prep in their first game, a team they defeated handily last Friday night 46-24. RWA is riding a seven game winning streak heading into the match up.

The top four teams from SCISA AA Region III play in the tournament and then SCISA playoffs follow for this girls team that has dominated its region this season.

They are the top seed in their conference with an undefeated conference record in the regular season. The Eagles are ranked third in the state in the SCISA category according to maxpreps.com.
